Effective January 1, 2026, an amendment to the Act on Name and Surname introduced an option into Section 6 enabling a parent who personally provides care for a minor child—and whose surname the child does not bear—to apply to the District Office for permission for the child to use their surname as a second surname.
This option may be exercised even if the parents are unmarried and the other parent has refused consent or where such consent could not be obtained. Neither the consent of the second parent nor a court decision is required for this application; such authorization may be granted only once. Our firm provides legal advisory and administrative representation in submitting these applications.
